Ratiboř U Jindřichova Hradce: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The Holná pond is located in the cadastral area of the municipality of Ratiboř and covers 244 hectares. Its history dates back to the time of Charles IV; it was later restored by Jakub Krčín z Jelčan.

Water and paths

A marked hiking trail runs along the dam of Holná. A cycle path also runs along the dam through the extensive Jemčina forests to the former Jemčina hunting lodge. Swimming is possible at several points around Holná pond.

The island of Naxos is reflected on the surface of the pond. It is named after the island of the same name in the Aegean; this island of Naxos in the Aegean is designated as a natural biosphere reserve. Wetlands, peat bogs and adjoining wet meadows lie by Matenský rybník.

History and buildings

The present-day building of Svatá Barbora is late Gothic and was first documented in 1503. Svatá Barbora is privately owned, was restored by the owners and is currently not accessible to the public.

The chapel in Ratiboř, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, was built in 1780. It stands in the upper part of the village square and is lined with lime trees.

Above Ratiboř, the small fortress known as Čestův hrádek was built to protect the old road from Austria through the area towards Tábor. Čestův hrádek was abandoned sometime after 1417 and destroyed during the Hussite Wars. No structural remains have survived; the site continues to bear the name Hrad.
