Pivkovice is a place whose history is reflected in ceramic finds, a small village chapel, and preserved architectural forms.

Culture and History

The origins of Pivkovice are associated with the Early Iron Age through finds of Hallstatt-period ceramics from the cadastral area of the municipality. Pivkovice was probably founded in the 13th century; this is indicated by ceramic fragments found in the village and its surroundings.

A simple chapel with a small bell tower stands on the village square of Pivkovice along the main road. House No. 4 has a gable in the style of peasant Baroque.

The Hrad archaeological site is a two-part fortified settlement with an acropolis and a larger outer bailey area. Ceramic fragments found in fields immediately behind Pivkovice suggest that an earlier settlement may have been located somewhat higher than the present-day village.

The landscape around Pivkovice consists predominantly of fields and meadows. Within the municipality of Pivkovice, the Brnoušský potok stream has several other unnamed tributaries.
