Mazice: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Mažice was declared a village heritage reserve in 1995. At its historic centre lies a spacious, circular village green with a pond in the middle.

Culture

House No. 5 is home to a granary regarded as the oldest building in Mažice and believed to date from 1613. It was one of the early buildings to be converted from an original wooden structure into a masonry building.

A chapel with a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dating from 1671 stands on a stone Baroque bridge in Mažice. The bridge with the niche chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk is a protected historical monument. Beside the pond in the middle of the village green stands the Chapel of Saint Anne, which dates from the second half of the 19th century.

The Mažická Stodola is a historic building and the last surviving part of the former so-called Mažický dvůr, House No. 16. The Mažická Stodola contains facilities for leisure activities, recreational sports, and cultural and social events organised by the municipality. The year 1853 is inscribed on the gable of the smithy in Mažice.

Nature

Mažice lies on the edge of peatlands between fields and meadows. The Veselská blata Nature Monument also includes the cadastral area of Mažice and protects a transition bog within a basin bog, with characteristic flora and fauna as well as flooded areas, wet meadows and wetland habitats.

In the surrounding area, the Borkovická blata educational trail explores a protected peat bog with typical bog vegetation. Most of the 6.5-kilometre trail runs along wooden boardwalks.

Things to do

The Mažice educational trail is a circular route. It starts on the village green in Mažice, leads to the Veselská blata Nature Monument and returns via Zálší. The village of Mažice, the starting point, can be reached by car or bicycle. The educational trail offers circular routes of 4.5 kilometres and 2 kilometres, as well as six information boards with tasks for children. It provides information about past and present village life in the Blata, local Blata architecture, traditional Blata dress and peat extraction.

The “Na Borkovická blata a za lidovou architekturou” cycling route is a signposted 51-kilometre circular route.
