Horní Pěna: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Horní Pěna lies in a valley below the dam of the 75-hectare Pěněnský rybník, also called Dřevo. The Dřevo pond is one of the oldest ponds in the Jindřichův Hradec area. The southeastern part of the cadastral area of Horní Pěna lies within the Česká Kanada Nature Park.

Nature and Water

The beach at Dřevo pond has been improved with more space for relaxing, additional sand, as well as benches and a table. In the wider regional surroundings of Horní Pěna are the mountains Starohuťský vrch, Větrov, Kalcův vrch and Kostelík.

The Na Hrádečku Zoo in Horní Pěna is home to predators including steppe servals, American cougars, lions and spotted hyenas. Experiences offered there include a day as an animal keeper, animal feedings, guided tours with commentary and night-time visits.

Culture and History

The municipality of Horní Pěna had the Mlíčník restored in 2024. The Mlíčník, also known as Haltýř, is a small structure built over damp ground or a spring that was used to cool stored food. It was probably in operation from the beginning of the 19th century and was used mainly to store milk and dairy products.

The Church of St. Michael with its cemetery in Horní Pěna is a Gothic parish church from the first quarter of the 14th century. The Church of Svatý Ondřej is located in the surroundings of Horní Pěna. The wider regional surroundings also include Landštejn Castle, the Geyersteine monument and the Kerblerkreuz wayside shrine.

Geographical Location

Road II/128 runs through Horní Pěna towards Nová Bystřice and continues on to Austria.
