Kalsching: Holiday apartments and holiday homes
Kalsching (Chvalšiny) is initially marked by a striking sacred building: the Church of St. Mary Magdalene was built between 1487 and 1507 in the late Gothic style and is considered an important work of the Rosenberg building workshop. It is usually accessible only during regular Sunday services.
Culture and townscape
The large spindle-shaped square in Chvalšiny is approximately 530 metres long and extends from the stream at a right angle up a gentle slope. Chvalšiny is designated as an urban conservation area. Historical details also include the pillory with the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk: a four-sided granite column with bevelled edges dating from 1690, which is one of the few surviving pillories.
On the village square in Chvalšiny, the Schwarzenberg Floating Canal Museum is housed in a carefully restored historic building. The exhibitions inform visitors about the nature and natural monuments of the Šumava.
Landscape
Chvalšiny is located in the Blanský les Protected Landscape Area and serves as a starting point for trails towards Blanský les.
Cycling route
From Chvalšiny, the “Rediscovered Kájovsko–Boleticko” cycling route follows cycling route 1139. It forms an approximately 20-kilometre circular route and runs exclusively along existing marked cycle paths and Class III roads.
