Besednice lies at the foot of the Slepičí hory in a shallow depression forming the watershed between the Malše and Stropnice rivers. At the same time, the village is a good starting point for excursions to the peaks of the Slepičí hory.
Landscape
A special geological site is Besednické Vltavíny I. It is a deposit of gravel and sand containing vltavite, with remnants of vltavites deposited in a depression on crystalline bedrock.
Culture
The Baroque Church of St Procopius in Besednice dates from 1738. The listed church stands on elevated ground in the northern part of Besednice and forms a distinctive urban and landscape feature. Its complex includes statues of Saint Peter, Saint Paul and Saint John of Nepomuk, gravestones, a mortuary chapel and the walls of the historic cemetery.
The municipal museum in Besednice has a permanent civil protection exhibition. The Museum of the Market Town of Besednice also presents a permanent exhibition about RAF pilot Vojtěch Smolík DFC.
The annual events calendar includes the nationwide accordion gathering Setkání heligonkářů, held in memory of the victims of the Poříčská disaster.
Religion
In the centre of Besednice stands the niche chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk, a few metres southwest of the municipal office building. It is reached via a seven-step stone staircase and contains a polychrome statue of Saint John of Nepomuk in its niche.
Services are regularly held in the Betlémská Chapel, on the first and third Saturday of each month from 10 a.m.
Views and Trails
Slabošovka is a 36 m-high telecommunications tower that serves as an observation tower and was built in 2002. From the 24 m-high viewing platform, you can see the highest peak of the Slepičí hory, Kohout, as well as Kleť in the Blanský les, the peaks of the Novohradské hory and Poluška.
From the village square in Besednice, a green hiking trail first leads out; an unpaved farm track then continues to Slabošovka.
