Nepomuk: Holiday apartments and holiday homes
A special introduction to Nepomuk is offered by the Svatojánské Museum: it presents a collection of works of art and devotional objects from the 18th to the 20th century, documenting the diversity and richness of the cult surrounding Saint John of Nepomuk.
Culture and History
The Church of Saint John of Nepomuk is a Baroque church built at the site where, according to tradition, the saint’s birthplace stood; the building was designed by Kilián Ignác Dientzenhofer. The nave is freely accessible during visiting hours. A full tour of the church must be arranged in advance with the priest or the sacristan.
The Church of Saint James the Greater is a fortified Gothic basilica with Romanesque remnants and a Baroque bell tower. It is accessible during services and cultural events, or by arrangement through the Svatojánské Museum.
The birthplace of the painter Augustin Němejc is also part of the town’s cultural heritage. The early 19th-century house is where the artist was born; today, it houses a permanent public exhibition of his works. A permanent exhibition of historic technology is located in the former stables of the old Zelenohorská pošta, which is the second stop on the Pod Zelenou horou educational trail.
The Atrium Piarum, a concert hall with a grand piano, is also located in the heart of Nepomuk.
Trails and Landscape
The Pod Zelenou horou educational trail begins in the upper part of Nepomuk’s square. It is just under 4.5 kilometres long and has nine stops with information boards. The trail is suitable for walkers, cyclists and families with children, and can be navigated with a pushchair.
Another trail leads to Lipový vrch, also known locally as Lipák or Šibenice. The approximately 800-metre-long Stations of the Cross begins at the local cemetery and leads to the former execution site on Lipový vrch; it was established in 2021.
A large part of the “Nepomuckou vrchovinou za starými kostely” route passes through the Kákov-Plánický hřeben Nature Park.
Food and Recreation
Pivovar a Beer Spa Zlatá Kráva offers private beer baths in the old brewery cellars as well as a wellness area.
Other Places
Other places in the selection include Míšov, Útušice, Dobrany, Hradec U Stoda, Polanka, Neurazy, Horšice and Ptenín.
