Horšice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Church of Saint Matthias in Horšice was originally a Gothic building dating from around 1300 and was later remodelled in the Baroque style. It is listed as an immovable cultural monument.

Culture and History

The chateau in Újezd is a two-winged, single-storey building; on its eastern side stands the Chapel of Saint Anne, which was added to the chateau later as a Baroque chapel.

A large surviving barn is associated with the newer fortress of Horšice. The two-storey rectangular building measures approximately 14 × 21 m and has a mansard roof and massive buttresses. Only inconspicuous traces in the terrain remain of the older fortress of Horšice.

The monument to Gendarmerie Sergeant Josef Šlajs in Nevěrná was erected by Tělovýchovná jednota Sokol Horšice on 26 August 1945. It commemorates Josef Šlajs, who was seriously wounded there in the forest above Újezd on 19 May 1945 while searching for German soldiers and succumbed to his injuries on 20 May 1945.

The wayside cross U křížku on the road from Horšice to Luh was restored on 5 September 2000. Roman Catholic services of the Přeštice parish are held regularly on Sundays in the Church of Saint Matthias in Horšice.

Nature

The Zlatý potok flows through Horšice and divides the village into two parts. The three highest wooded hills of Horšice lie along the river: Holý vrch at 569 m, Nevěrná at 571 m and Jindřín at 535 m. Jindřín is home to a hillfort dating from the prehistoric settlement of the region.

Getting Around

Cycle Route No. 2189 passes through Horšice along the Loupenská Háj–Horšice–Újezd–Kbelnice route. Route 2186 runs through the administrative area of Horšice along the Radkovice–Vitouň–Luh route. Horšice is served by ČSAD buses.

Šlajsova pětapadesátka is the name of a 50 km commemorative cycle tour held to mark the anniversary of Šlajs's death.
