Manetin: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Manětín combines an urban conservation area designated in 1992, comprising 25 monuments, with an ensemble of more than 30 Baroque statues and sculptural groups.
Culture
On Manětín’s main square, the sculptural group of the Holy Trinity from 1719 defines the townscape. Today, a sandstone copy created by the academic sculptor Jiří Novák between 1998 and 2000 stands there. Another historical connection is formed by the Vysoká cesta: it connected Manětín with the settlement near St. Barbara’s Church and was equipped between 1728 and 1734 with 14 larger-than-life statues of saints from the workshop of the sculptor Josef Herscher.
The existence of St. John the Baptist’s Church in Manětín has been documented since 1182; its present appearance was created by a reconstruction carried out between 1711 and 1717. Remains of the walls of the chancel with the tower survive from the original Gothic church, while the interior furnishings are predominantly Baroque.
The Manětín château grounds include a French garden and an English park. The English landscape park at Manětín Château was laid out south of the Manětínský stream at the beginning of the 19th century and includes a pond with its own inlet, a hermitage, and a pavilion on an artificial hill.
The orangery of Manětín Château preserves parts of the original wooden structure and glazed wall, a brick aviary, and remnants of Baroque wall paintings from the 18th century. Based on the investigations, it was decided to restore the orangery to a form approximating its Baroque state.
Landscape
Chlumská hora, Doubravický vrch, also known as Kozelka, and Zbraslavský vrch rise from the Manětínská kotlina basin. South of Manětín lies the Lomské vrchoviny forest complex.
Trails
The 37-kilometre “Baroko II” cycle route passes through Manětín. The 58-kilometre “Along the Ridge of Chlumská hora to Třebouňský vrch” cycle route also starts and ends in Manětín.
The Mlýnská stezka trail, just under three kilometres long, connects Manětín and Nečtiny. It offers nine stations with information panels and hand-carved wooden sculptures.
