Malý Bor: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Malý Bor is situated in a gently hilly landscape west of Horažďovice, in the broad valley of the Mlýnský potok. On a slight rise stands the Church of St. Mary Magdalene, which was probably built between 1200 and 1225. On the southern side of its tower, it preserves two medieval figural wall paintings depicting archers; it also contains a medieval stone baptismal font.

Villagescape, History and Culture

Historically, Malý Bor developed in two parts: the village centre lies on a southern slope above the stream, while the second part of the village, on the other side of the stream, is called Kuchyňka. A bronze hoard found in Malý Bor in 1902 is partly preserved in the museum in Horažďovice. The village's eventful history also includes Malý Bor Fortress, which Jan Žižka captured and burned down on 12 October 1420. A historic trade route from Bavaria via Železná Ruda and Klatovy divided in the region; one branch led via Malý Bor and nearby Prácheň to České Budějovice.

At the western end of Malý Bor, the remains of the former fortress complex, including traces of the moat, are visible. The Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk in Kuchyňka is one of Malý Bor's culturally and historically significant sites. The preserved villagescape also includes the brick farmhouse No. 17 with its historic black kitchen. The parish in Malý Bor also preserves a late Gothic portal in its surrounding wall.

Landscape and Regional Connections

Buzrakov Mountain (Plánický hřeben) is located in the vicinity of Malý Bor. In the wider region are Svatobor Mountain, the ruins of the Radomysl Mediumwave Radio Mast, Sedlo Mountain [Sušice-Albrechtice], and Vysoký Mountain.

Malý Bor is one of the municipalities along the Otavská cycling trail.
