Ostruzno: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Ostružno is the setting of the novel “Světák z Podlesí” by Karel Klostermann and is located in the Kašperská vrchovina Nature Park.

Culture and history

Below the chapel stands the former Karel Klostermann School. It was built in 1874 and is now privately owned. On Ostružno village square stands the Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, dating from 1860. At the end of the village in the direction of Albrechtice there is a wayside shrine.

The Kokšovy quarry near Ostružno also reflects the history of the village: in 1874, the quarrying of small stone blocks for the production of monuments began there. The U Pretlů farmstead probably dates from around the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries.

In front of Ostružno, on the road from Sušice to Nezdice, stands a niche chapel. The niche on its front contains a statue of the Virgin Mary. On the south side, a longer poem about unfulfilled love is mounted on a wooden heart. The niche chapel offers a beautiful view to the southeast.

Landscape

The landscape around Ostružno comprises deep forests interspersed with mountain meadows. From the surroundings of Ostružno, there are views across the interior as well as of the Šumava Mountains Ždánov and Javorník, both over 1,000 metres high.
