Hostouň: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Czech section of the Way of St. James leads from Bělá nad Radbuzou through Hostouň, where it reaches the Church of St. James, and continues via Přes towards Kladruby. Hostouň also has an information board with a detailed description of the Way of St. James.

Culture

The Church of St. James in Hostouň has been documented in writing since 1369. The present Baroque building may incorporate masonry from an older church and is decorated with wall paintings. Its tower bears three bells dated 1453, 1516 and 1562. Hostouň also has a Baroque statue dating from 1722, which underwent conservation treatment in 2021.

History

The former fortress in Hostouň lost its function as the seat of the estate in 1656 and was converted into a chateau in the 18th century. Hostouň Chateau formerly served as a hunting lodge; later, it was the residence of the widowed Princess Anna Trauttmannsdorfová.

During the Second World War, the Lipizzaner breeding facility in Hostouň was tasked with training stallions for the Spanish Riding School in Vienna.

The surroundings of Hostouň include Železný vrch, Škarmanka, Reichenstein and Schillerberg mountains.

On 1 May 2009, an information board was ceremonially unveiled in Hostouň.
