Chudenice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Žďár educational trail leads through the forest in Chudenice for five kilometers. It runs along well-maintained paths and through mostly easy terrain. At 15 stations, visitors can learn interesting facts about the local flora and fauna as well as other local features. The educational trail has two starting points: at Zámek Lázeň and at St. Anne’s Chapel.

Trails and Nature

The Americká zahrada Arboretum focuses on collections of woody plants, trees, and shrubs. In the autumn of 1828, it was established as a tree nursery and plant reserve for the Lázeň spa. In 1969, the Ministry of Culture of the ČSR designated Americká zahrada as a state-protected park and as a rare scientific, natural, and cultural monument.

Since 1996, Chudenicko has been a landscape monument zone with viewpoints, small bodies of water, Lázeň Park, the Americká zahrada Arboretum, and the Bolfánek lookout tower. Zámek Lázeň and its park are accessible only during cultural or social events or by prior arrangement with the castle administration.

Culture and History

Starý zámek is the oldest monument in Chudenice and is considered the cradle of the old noble Czernin family from Chudenice. The exhibition at Starý zámek displays authentic historical furniture, objects, and paintings of the Czernins from Chudenice, which originally came from Zámek Lázeň.

During a visit to Starý zámek, visitors can see the oldest parts of the original fortress. These include the preserved defensive bastion with an exhibition, the castle lord’s living quarters, the kitchen, the food store with remnants of an original spiral staircase, the original gate with remains of the mechanism for the drawbridge, and preserved Gothic loopholes.

The Kvapilova jezírka ponds are associated with the writer Jaroslav Kvapil: during his student years, he enjoyed spending time there, and when writing the libretto for Dvořák’s opera Rusalka, he had this location in mind as the setting.
