Ostrov: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Ostrov lies in the valley of the Ostrovský potok below the distinctive ridge of the Třebovské stěny. The Třebovské stěny Nature Reserve extends into the cadastral area of Ostrov u Lanškrouna, with an old beech forest on a steep slope where numerous marl rock outcrops and sandstone blocks can be found.

Nature and Landscape

Near Ostrov and Rudoltice, the U Kaštánku Natural Monument is located in the cadastral area of Ostrov u Lanškrouna. The 22.64-hectare protected area consists of a mosaic of alder, birch and willow stands, reed beds, purple moor-grass and sedge meadows, streams, springs, pools and, in some areas, cultivated meadows. Its purpose of protection includes in particular the habitats of specially protected plant and animal species, as well as the comprehensive protection of aquatic, wetland and meadow communities.

Another landscape area is the Lanškrounské rybníky. The system of ponds stretches from Lanškroun to the southeastern edge of Ostrov. The Lanškrounské rybníky educational trail leads through a nature park with this system of seven ponds: Krátký, Dlouhý, Olšový, Pšeničkův, Slunečný, Ostrovský 1 and Ostrovský 2. The earliest recorded information about the beginnings of fish farming at the Lanškrounské rybníky dates back to 1433.

History and Church

The first written mention of Ostrov dates back to 1292. Ostrov, in the cadastral area of Ostrov u Lanškrouna, is also home to the branch church of St. Nicholas, Bishop, which formerly served as a parish church. Outside the holiday season, Sunday services are scheduled there every other week.
