In Mladkov, long-distance hiking trails, rocky landscapes, border history and distinctive sacred buildings come together. The special character of the village lies both in its open landscape and in the traces left behind by history and regional routes.
Outdoors
The Jiráskova horská cesta long-distance hiking trail runs through Mladkov – from Zemská brána via the hut on Adam and Mladkov to Vysoký kámen and onwards to Suchý vrch. The Betonová hranice educational trail starts and ends in the centre of Mladkov and includes 23 information panels about the construction, purpose, history and fate of the Czechoslovak border fortifications.
The Mladkovské výhledy route climbs 260 metres in elevation over a relatively short section from the starting point. On the outskirts of Mladkov there is also the Mladkov climbing area, with gneiss rocks on a valley slope above the Tichá Orlice. Mariánská skála is approximately 12 metres high and has more than 20 routes ranging from moderate to very high difficulty.
Border Region
The border tree at the tourist crossing from Mladkov to its Polish neighbours is an ash tree that has been growing since 1581. It once marked the border between the estates of Zdeněk Valdštejn and Michael von Tschirnhaus. The site of the border tree near Mladkov is accessible by car; a car park and a tourist rest area have been established in the immediate vicinity.
The Tmavěmodrá PL/CZ cycle route begins at the Czech–Polish border crossing near Mladkov.
Culture
Mladkov’s dominant landmark is the early Baroque Church of Saint John the Baptist, built at the end of the 17th century. The single-nave building has a polygonal presbytery and a square tower on the west façade. The west tower features a stone portal dated 1736 and, in a niche, a stone statue of Saint John the Baptist with a lamb. A statue of Saint John of Nepomuk stands beside the church; a Marian column stands in the western part of Mladkov Square.
