History and Culture

The first written mention of Ředice dates from 9 April 1336; at that time, the village was referred to as Hermansdorf. The name Ředice is derived from the former name of the Ředina stream, which was also called Ředinka or Ředička and is now known as Ředický potok. Dolní Ředice and Horní Ředice were definitively separated into two villages on 20 March 1849.

Joža Jaro was from Dolní Ředice and was a music educator and composer. He was born on 20 January 1901 in Dolní Ředice, in a house on what is now Na Kopečku Street. The traditional Masopust custom is held regularly in Dolní Ředice. The nearby Church of Saint Wenceslas in Horní Ředice continued to serve worshippers from both Horní Ředice and Dolní Ředice even after the two municipalities were separated.

Nature

The Žernov protected area is home to natural eutrophic waters with vegetation of the Magnopotamion or Hydrocharition type, transition mires and quaking bogs, oak-hornbeam forests of the Galio-Carpinetum association, and old acidophilous oak woods with pedunculate oak on sandy plains.

Bus route 650610 connects Pardubice, Dolní Ředice, Holice and Horní Jelení. Cycle route No. 4120 connects Čachnov and Vysoká nad Labem.

Pivovar Mordýř Brewery is located at Dašická 300 in Dolní Ředice. The Dolní Ředice Municipal Library offers books and magazines for adults and children; free internet access is also available there.
