Chornice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Church of St. Lawrence in Chornice is a Baroque-style rural parish church of medieval origin dating from the early 14th century.

Culture and History

The church grounds include a late Gothic tower with a stepped pyramidal roof, as well as two Baroque statues of St. John of Nepomuk. The church stands on the site of a former fortress; the surviving masonry of its former outline forms part of the cemetery wall.

The almost completed but unfinished motorway route structure runs through fields southwards to the airfield near Chornice. Beyond the airfield, the unfinished motorway route leads to a foothill of Hušák Mountain; however, the extensive earthworks required there were not completed.

Polní mlýn is a romantic mill outside Chornice; opposite, on the other side of the road, there is a niche chapel. The mill is located on the southeastern edge of Chornice, about 0.7 km from the Church of St. Lawrence on the road to Biskupice.

Nature and Surroundings

In the vicinity of Chornice lies Holubí studánka, a pilgrimage site and a plentiful spring with a chapel on the western slope of the 625-metre-high Hušák hill. The spring emerges from a side section of the chapel below Hušák hill.

Bus and train connections via Chornice are indicated for travelling to Holubí studánka from the surrounding area.

Hiking and Cycling

A blue-marked hiking trail begins at Chornice railway station and leads to the Pod Hušákem trail junction. The long-distance Hradec Králové–Břeclav cycle route and local cycling routes cross in Chornice.
