Vilémov: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
The Baroque Church of St. Catherine dominates the townscape of Vilémov. It was built from the ground up in 1758 on the site of an earlier house of worship. During the reconstruction of the church tower in 1908, the original low roof was replaced by a significantly higher onion dome with a lantern.
Culture
Vilémov’s sacred heritage includes the Monastery of the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God. It was consecrated on September 18, 1993, and belongs to the monasteries of the Olomouc-Brno Eparchy. Visitors can attend the evening and morning services. Every year, the Feast of the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God is celebrated there with a pilgrimage service; the festivities also include a procession around the church.
Construction of the Orthodox church in Vilémov began in 1931, and it was consecrated on August 14, 1932. In 2015, the original paintings and sculptures were returned to the church, wherever possible to their original locations. After many years away, the original Stations of the Cross images were also returned.
The oldest monument in the municipality of Vilémov is considered to be the atonement cross. It is estimated to be around 400 years old and bears a relief of a sword on its front.
Nature
Vilémov is surrounded by forests on all sides. At the summit of Homola Hill stands a rest pavilion offering views of Olomouc and Svatý kopeček. There is a reservoir in the lower part of Vilémov.
