Vernířovice: Apartments and Holiday Homes

The area around Vernířovice is mountainous and highly varied. Its highest point is Jelení hřbet at 1,367 metres. The entire area lies within the Jeseníky Protected Landscape Area.

Nature

The Břidličná Nature Reserve protects cryogenic geomorphological forms such as rocks, stone streams, block fields and polygonal ground. It also includes subalpine and forested habitats with springs, as well as rare, highly endangered and critically endangered plant and animal species. The Zadní Hutisko Natural Monument is an abandoned, incompletely exploited quarry and the second-largest Krupník body in the Czech Republic.

Most of the Vernířovice area extends into the Jeseníky Bird Area, which protects the habitats of the hazel grouse (Bonasa bonasia) and the corncrake (Crex crex). At its eastern edge, the area is also part of the Praděd European protected area, known for its mountain spruce forests, natural high-alpine open landscapes, rocky habitats and peat bogs.

Trails and Winter Sports

The Švagrov Forest Eco-Trail is located nearby. It is a 4.5-kilometre route with 12 stations for walkers, riders and cross-country skiers. The Mineralogical Educational Trail can be divided into the 14.6-kilometre Vernířovický circuit and the 10.7-kilometre Sobotínský circuit. It is marked in both directions and also includes the educational trail “PERMONÍKOVA STEZKA”, designed for children.

The Brněnka ski resort in Vernířovice has a 300-metre-long ski lift and offers night skiing. Free parking is available at the ski resort. The car parks at the Říčař ski resort are located directly next to the ski lift.

The Vernířovice Municipal Office is a suitable starting point for e-bike tours and offers free e-bike charging.

Culture and History

The parish church of St Matthew in Vernířovice was built in 1776 on the site of a cemetery chapel dating from 1711. It was enlarged in 1837 and remodelled into its present form in 1851. The brick Boží muka wayside shrine chapel has a gabled roof covered with slate and a cast-iron cross dated 1894.

Vernířovice has a heritage as a mining settlement connected with iron ore mining, forestry and charcoal production. The traditional history of the village also includes Maryna Schuchová from Vernířovice: on Palm Sunday in 1678, she attempted to take a consecrated host from the Church of St Lawrence in Sobotín after receiving Communion.

Village and Traditions

The Flood Park is located in the Merta area at its confluence with the Ztracený potok. The Masopust procession in Vernířovice generally includes annual tastings of fruit spirits and pork products.
