Staré Město pod Sněžníkem lies in the vicinity of the 1,424 m-high Králický Sněžník, which is considered the natural dominant feature of the surrounding region. Between mountain landscapes, historic fortifications and regional culture, a multifaceted picture of this place emerges.

Landscape and trails

A route leads from Staré Město to the 1,022 m-high Paprsek in the Rychlebské hory mountains. In the Staroměstská pevnostní oblast, an 8 km-long trail connects several infantry bunkers. They were built for defence before the Second World War. The trail is marked with red-and-white signs and can be started at the railway station.

For winter sports, Staroměstsko offers more than 140 km of groomed cross-country ski trails with varying levels of difficulty. Another prominent viewpoint is the Dalimilova Rozhledna: the stone observation tower stands on 918 m-high Větrov near Staré Město and is a faithful replica of the former observation tower on Králický Sněžník.

History and culture

The Church of St Anne is a listed building; the current Catholic structure was built in 1618. Military history is presented at the Muzeum vojenské historie a Staroměstska, with a fortification exhibition about the beginning of construction of the permanent fortifications in the 1930s. Another exhibition at this museum provides a comprehensive historical overview of the Czechoslovak Army.

The Staré Město Museum is located in a single room on the ground floor of the town hall and opened in 2001. Its collection includes around two hundred objects and historical archival materials, including dozens of photographs of architectural landmarks and natural beauties.

The traditional Anenská pouť took place from 24 to 27 July 2025 at Náměstí Osvobození in Staré Město pod Sněžníkem.
