Oprostovice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Oprostovice lies between Lipník nad Bečvou and Bystřice pod Hostýnem, extending in a north–south direction. In the centre of the village stands the Chapel of Our Lady with its four-sided bell tower.

Culture and History

The Chapel of Our Lady of Hostýn dates from around 1750 to before 1830 and is classified as belonging to the late Baroque and Neoclassical periods. It served for field services praying for a good harvest.

The stone cross beside the chapel was erected in 1871 and later altered. Its inscription from 1947 names the Štěpánová family from Oprostovice as the donors. Since 5 December 2019, the Chapel of Our Lady of Hostýn and the cross have been listed as a protected cultural monument under registration number 106445.

A memorial plaque at the chapel with its bell tower in Oprostovice commemorates the local theologian and publicist ThDr. Bohumil Zlámal. Zlámal, who was born in Oprostovice, wrote 190 works on church history.

Nature

At the northeastern edge of Oprostovice, behind the fence of a private garden, stands an English oak classified as a natural monument. Its trunk circumference is 385 cm and its height is 19 m; its age is estimated at 150 to 200 years.

At the upper edge of the village stands a wayside shrine. Its glazed display case contains a statue of Our Lady of Lourdes, while a stone cross stands atop its column. From the shrine, the view extends to the Hostýnské vrchy on the horizon.

The Jančíkovy family’s stone cross dates from 1859. Another stone cross, dating from 1847, stands at the exit from Oprostovice in the direction of Radotín.

Routes

Regional cycle route 5035 runs through Oprostovice; it connects Týn nad Bečvou, Bystřice pod Hostýnem and Ratiboř. The route by the Chapel of Our Lady of Hostýn is marked for tourists and serves as a stopping point for pedestrians and cyclists.
