Culture

The bell tower of Oplocany stands in the village square. It was repaired in 2015 with the support of the Czech Ministry for Regional Development. The statue of Saint Florian is registered as a cultural monument and was restored more recently. The sandstone statue is a Baroque work from the mid-18th century and is believed to have been created by the Moravian sculptor and stucco artist Gottfried Fritsche from Tovačov.

In the Arnoštov district of Oplocany, there is a chapel in front of house no. 144. The Chapel of St. Arnošt in Oplocany was repaired as part of a project that ran from 2024 to 2025 and was co-financed by the Czech Ministry of Agriculture. The surrounding area also contains the Socha sv. Jana Nepomuckého monument and the Pomník obětem 1. světové války monument. Further afield in the region are the ruins of Hrádek and Kuchlov.

Landscape

The Viklička watercourse crosses the cadastral area of Oplocany in the south of the municipality. The mountain Předina is located in the surrounding area. The hill (Zadní Díly) [Uhřičice] is located nearby. Further afield in the region are the mountains Chlum and Horka.

History

A human settlement existed near the Valová River in Oplocany around 2500 BC. Oplocany was first mentioned in written sources in 1131.

A cooperative dairy began operating in the former Oplocanský Mill building on 15 November 1909. Tvarůžky were also produced there from 1936 onwards.
