Luká: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Luká combines natural landscapes, educational trails and a culture of remembrance. The area is particularly shaped by the Špraněk karst region, the paths near Javoříčko and historic sites.

Nature

The Špraněk National Nature Reserve lies in the western part of Luká’s cadastral area. It includes underground and surface karst formations, including the Javoříčské Caves, chasms, a rock gate, ponors, sinkholes and limestone pavement.

The Špraněk educational trail leads through the Špraněk National Nature Reserve on a limestone hill. The Javoříčské Caves are located in the Devonian limestone of Mount Špraněk and extend across three underground levels. They are open to the public and are characterised by rich stalactite and stalagmite formations, as well as a complex system of passages, chasms and domes.

Of the more than 3.5 kilometres of passages in the Javoříčské Caves currently known, 788 metres are open to the public. The Špraněk National Nature Reserve may only be entered via marked paths.

Trails

The Javoříčko educational trail is one kilometre long and has nine stops. It passes newly marked foundations of former houses that were burned down.

The Špraněk educational trail is five kilometres long and starts and ends in Javoříčko. Along the trail, you will encounter the collapsed Zátvořice borehole, the Svěcená díra Cave and Zkamenělý zámek.

The Bouzov educational trail runs between Bouzov and Javoříčko through the valley of the Javoříčka stream and past the Panské rybníky ponds. A roughly five-kilometre path around the Panské rybníky is intended for pedestrians and cyclists.

The Bouzov educational trail has seven stops; some of them offer covered seating with views of the landscape.

History and Culture

The Baroque Church of St John the Baptist stands in the village square of Luká. The present Church of St John the Baptist in Luká was built in 1734 on the site of an older church.

The Javoříčko Memorial to the Victims of the Second World War is a national cultural monument commemorating the tragedy of 5 May 1945. The memorial stands directly above the mass grave of the victims and is designed as a larger-than-life group of six figures.

Next to the Javoříčko Memorial stands the former school, where the Javoříčko educational trail begins. It has been converted into a modern exhibition showing Javoříčko as it was before its destruction and providing information about the wartime events at the end of the war.
