Šléglov: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Šléglov lies in a small valley carved by the Staříč stream into the upland of the foothills of the Rychlebské hory; the Staříč also rises here. The area's landscape features include sightlines and viewpoints. At 798 metres, Kutný vrch is the highest point in the cadastral area of Šléglov and is associated with a documented mining history.

Landscape

Above Šléglov, near Staré Město in the Šumperk District, lies the Řeznická Chapel. A blue-marked hiking trail passes the chapel between Branná and Staré Město pod Sněžníkem. From there, there are views of the Králický Sněžník and Hrubý Jeseník mountain ranges.

Nature and Geology

In the wider regional surroundings of Šléglov, the Králický Sněžník Bird Protection Area protects the corn crake (Crex crex) and its habitat in extensively managed meadows. Šléglov is also associated with the Natura 2000 Králický Sněžník Bird Protection Area as a local environmental asset.

Geological features include a site with a quarry that was operated to produce aggregate for bunkers. The quarry contains fine-grained, massive, greenish dark-grey amphibolite with visible garnet in places.

History and Culture

Šléglov has been documented in historical records since 1325. In the 16th century, the settlement appears again in records concerning settlements administered by Kolštejn Castle in Branná. After the turmoil of the Hussite Wars and the Bohemian–Hungarian Wars, Šléglov was probably abandoned; documents described the settlement as deserted.

Šléglov's mining history is associated with crushing and grinding gold-bearing ores. Another cultural and historical detail is the Calvary group below Dvorský vrch: it is a sandstone column beside a disused road. The Calvary group includes a crucifix and figures of the Virgin Mary and Saint John; it also contains a relief of Mary Magdalene with a vessel for fragrant ointment.

Trails and Cycling Routes

In the Staré Město area, Cycle Route 9 passes through Šléglov. It is approximately 28 kilometres long and runs along roads and paved asphalt paths. A cycling trip reaches Vikantice after 2.3 kilometres, where it connects to Cycle Route 53.
