Sudice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Sudice is situated in the gently rolling agricultural landscape of the Hlučín Upland and slopes down towards the valley of the Oldřišovský potok. The elevation ranges from 238 to 255 m above sea level. The Bílá voda stream flows through Sudice; bus services connect the village with Opava and Ostrava.

Culture

The Basilica of Saint John the Baptist in Sudice is a Neo-Gothic, three-aisled basilica with a transept, built of red brick and stone between 1904 and 1906. The complex of the Church of Saint John the Baptist in Sudice was declared a cultural monument in 1990.

Sudice is home to an Evangelical and Orthodox church consecrated in 1909. It was originally built as an Evangelical funeral chapel; today, services of both denominations are held there.

History

Outside Sudice, on the road to the Czech-Polish border, stands a monument to the Czechoslovak tank crews, erected in 1960. On 28 March 1945, Sudice was the first liberated municipality in the Opava district. Construction work on the Sudice–Pietraszyn road border crossing between Poland and the Czech Republic was completed on 14 October 1993.

Traditions

Held annually on the feast day of Saint John the Baptist, Sudický odpust is a two-day festival in honour of the patron saint of the municipality of Sudice. Sudický odpust features music and fireworks on Saturday. A wide range of refreshments, including numerous homemade specialities, is also available.

Routes

Cycle Route 6055 leads from Třebom via Sudice, Rohov and Strahovice through the Chuchelenský les towards Albertovec and onwards to Kravaře. The 8.0 km-long Cycle Route 6153 leads from the Kietrz/Třebom border crossing via Třebom, where it joins Cycle Route 6055 to Sudice, and onwards to the border crossing towards Racibórz.

The blue-marked hiking trail from Sudice to Hlučín leads via Rohov and Strahovice to Chuchelná, through the Chuchelna and Bělá forests, and onwards past the remains of the border fortifications to a reconstructed fort in the area of the Czechoslovak fortifications, which is open to the public.
