Culture and History

The Rothschild Chateau was built between 1787 and 1815 in the Romantic historicist style. The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Šilheřovice was built in 1713 by the Jesuit College in Opava. A restored stone tombstone from the late 16th century is set into its outer wall. In 1764, the church received three bells from the workshop of the Opava bell founder František Stanke.

Park and Nature

The 98-hectare English-style park in Šilheřovice features rare trees and shrubs. It contains the artificial ponds Podzámecký and U loveckého zámečku, as well as Lake Evelinino jezero. The castle park also contains a small hunting lodge.

A circular trail several kilometres long runs around the entire castle park in Šilheřovice. Černý les is characterized by a natural beech forest; the two Černý les I and Černý les II nature reserves were established in the area in 1970. From Šilheřovice Castle, Černý les can be reached via a green-marked hiking trail. The highly endangered hermit beetle (Osmoderma eremita) occurs in the avenues around the castle park.

Golf in the Park

The publicly accessible golf course can be played without taking the so-called Green Card skills and knowledge tests. The park also contains the 9-hole Rothschild Academy, where complete beginners can play as well.
