Kyjovice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Kyjovice Chateau is protected as a cultural monument under registration number ÚSKP 22598/8-1425. Its architectural history spans the late Baroque period to the first half of the 19th century: it was built in 1783 in the late Baroque style and subsequently remodelled in the Empire style. The chateau complex also includes a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk from the 18th century. This brings together, in one place, the history of chateau architecture and an independent religious work of art.

Culture and History

Another historical site in the village is the new Chapel of Saint Vitus. It was consecrated by Bishop Josef Schinzel on 15 September 1929. Kyjovice Chateau Park also bears a distinctive mark of garden history. Rarer species of trees and shrubs were planted there, particularly under Count Bedřich Stolberg. The park is therefore not only connected with the chateau, but also preserves its own selection of trees and shrubs from that period. The chateau, chapel and park each have a different focus: architecture, religious history and an established park structure each form their own part of the village landscape. After visiting the chateau park, visitors can leave it through a gate into the adjacent forest. The transition from the park to the forest is explicitly connected with the chateau park as part of the village.

Landscape

Kyjovice lies on the elevated Polanská Plateau in the Nízký Jeseník mountain range, at an altitude of 378 metres. One of the village’s natural reference points is the Polančice stream, which rises in Kyjovice. In clear weather, the heights behind Kyjovice offer views of the panorama of the Beskids. Thus, Kyjovice’s landscape brings together the immediate source of a stream, the village’s elevated position and a broader vista. These three elements describe the village from different spatial perspectives, without any one of them overshadowing the others.

Routes and Seasons

A green-marked hiking trail runs through Kyjovice. Another yellow-marked hiking trail begins at the Kyjovice bus station and leads towards the Sezina Valley. The two trails therefore differ both in the colour of their markings and in their starting point and direction. Cyclists can also use cycle route 6140, which leads from Kyjovice through Čavisov towards the spa resort of Hýlov. Hiking and cycling connections thus represent different forms of travel, each with its own marking, route and destination.

The seasons also change the landscape character of the routes and heights described above. Kyjovice’s varied landscape attracts winter sports enthusiasts in winter, particularly cross-country skiers. Winter sports thus complement the marked connections with a seasonal aspect of the village. Over the course of the year, the routes, heights and chateau park form different settings within the same village landscape; which of them comes most visibly to the fore depends on the season and, in the case of the heights, also on clear visibility.
