A nature trail leads around the structures of the Smolkovská tvrz. The complex on Padařov Hill was built between 1936 and 1938 as part of the fortification belt and consists of five underground structures connected to one another. The location, construction period and layout of the complex are therefore closely interconnected: the nature trail follows the individual structures on the hill, while the underground connection describes the architectural character of the fortress complex.
History
The memorials to Silesian scouting also connect specific places with historical developments. The Památník slezského skautingu was built from 1971 onwards in response to the ban on the Junák movement. Two benches stand beside the Mohyla slezských skautů, where visitors can rest after the climb.
The Vladislav-Vančura Monument was erected in 1972 on the main road in the western part of Háj ve Slezsku. Its history also includes the original bust, which was the work of the sculptor Karel Vašut. It was stolen in 2002 and replaced with a copy. The location on the main road, the year of construction and the change from the original to the copy are distinct elements of the monument’s history. The local history therefore encompasses both the erection of the monument and the alteration of its visible artistic component.
Culture
The Church of St Valentine was declared a cultural monument in May 2015. At the same time, it has preserved the artistic form of its building, erected in 1911. This connection brings together its later classification as a cultural monument and the preserved artistic form of a building whose construction dates back more than a century. The two years place the building’s history and its later recognition at separate points in time.
The Neo-Gothic Chapel of the Virgin Mary was built in 1877 by local settlers and today serves as a gallery. Its architectural form, date of construction and present-day use belong to a single local history: the chapel is recorded as a Neo-Gothic building, originated with local settlers and is currently used as a gallery. Thus, inherited architecture and present-day cultural use come together at this site. The chapel therefore combines a clearly defined origin in the 19th century with a current function as a gallery.
Landscape
Ostrá hůrka (315 m above sea level) is a hill belonging to Chabičov and an important site of the Silesian National Revival. Ostrá hůrka also has a north-facing viewpoint overlooking Háj ve Slezsku and other municipalities in Silesia. The elevation, affiliation with Chabičov and historical significance describe the hill as well as its specific viewing situation: the view faces north and encompasses Háj ve Slezsku and other municipalities in Silesia. At Ostrá hůrka, the geographical classification, historical significance and described view thus form a shared landscape.
