Tatobity: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Tatobity lies at the foot of Kozákov; at 744 metres, it is the highest mountain in Český ráj.

Landscape and Nature

The Tatobitská tisíciletá lípa is one of the town’s notable natural landmarks. Its estimated age is between 600 and 1,000 years. More than ten people can fit inside its hollow, gnarled interior. In 2015, the tree won the Czech Tree of the Year competition and came second in the European competition for the most beautiful tree in Europe, receiving more than 43,000 votes.

Tatobity is located near the Český ráj Protected Landscape Area and in the Český ráj Geopark, which is listed by UNESCO. The mountains of Tábor, Střelečská hůra, Přivýšina and Strážník are located in the surroundings of Tatobity.

There are no traffic restrictions when travelling by car to the Tatobity quarry, an ignimbrite quarry.

Culture and History

The wayside shrine in Tatobity, dating from 1776, inspired Jan Neruda to write “Balada horská”. The Church of St Lawrence in Tatobity was rebuilt from 1714 and completed in 1753; before that, a predominantly wooden chapel had stood there since 1602.

The rectory in Tatobity was built in 1884. Valdštejn, a church, is located in the surroundings of Tatobity.

Traditions

The Christmas Midnight Mass in Tatobity is a local tradition prepared by residents of the municipality and the surrounding area under the direction of Jaroslav Šťastný.

In the upper part of Tatobity stands a statue of the Virgin Mary called Matička. It was created by the local sculptor Zeman and is dated to 1820; 1867 is also given in some sources.
