Hochstadt An Der Iser: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Sklenařice and the surrounding area, both nearby and farther afield, combine historical traces with named footpaths, cycling routes, and hiking trails. The individual stops range from local details to regionally significant buildings.
Culture and History
One historical detail is the Chapel of St. Anne: in 1880, the 64-year-old farmer František Metelka from House No. 25 built the chapel on his property. It was consecrated on 1 August and endowed with a foundation. Tomášův kříž is known locally and in the surrounding area as a landmark. It stands on the hills of Sklenařice known as “Tomášova vrcha”.
The history of glassmaking is also connected with Sklenařice. The glassmaking craft of the glassworks gave the emerging settlement the name Sklenařice. In 1376, the Quayserova glassworks supplied glass for the construction of the local church by the canon Hanuš from Hlohov. In connection with the historical glassmaking industry in Sklenařice, a glass-coated stone and glassmakers’ crucibles made from roughly hewn stones were found.
Routes and Activities
The footpath “Views of the Krkonoše Mountains and Sklenařice with a Stop at the Swimming Pool” is a circular route through Sklenařice and passes by log houses. The route includes a visit to the local outdoor swimming pool; use of the pool is at your own risk.
The tourist cycling and hiking trip “Trip via Vysoké nad Jizerou and Sklenařice to Tomášovy vrchy” is 12.5 km long. Another option is the cycling route “To Harrachov for the Mammoth Bridge”: it leads from Sklenařice via Čermákovy Rovně, Rejdice, Příchovice, Horní Polubný, and “Mejto” to Harrachov and back. Harrachov is located at the 17 km mark on the stated route.
