Lomnice Nad Popelkou: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
A city history with its own distinctive character and a regional perspective is presented at the Městské muzeum a galerie Lomnice nad Popelkou.
Culture and History
The Městské muzeum a galerie Lomnice nad Popelkou has a permanent exhibition on Lomnické suchary and the town’s industrial tradition. This speciality has been produced in Lomnice nad Popelkou since the 19th century and is distinguished by a double-baking process. The museum also focuses on the history and ethnography of the Lomnicko region, the mineralogy and zoology of the Český ráj and Podkrkonoší regions, and works by regional artists. The programme includes night tours of the museum as well as expert-guided tours of the historic town centre; individual tours can be arranged.
Lomnice nad Popelkou Castle was built in the 16th century by the Valdštejn family and remodelled in the Baroque style by Václav Morzin in the 18th century. The castle regularly hosts the Léto na zámku cultural events series; occasional events, exhibitions, lectures and concerts are also held there.
The historic character of the town also includes Karlov in Lomnice nad Popelkou, a village conservation area of folk architecture. Its large rectangular square is lined with single-storey wooden houses featuring carved gables and arcades. Lomnické pivo is a regional product; the history of brewing in Lomnice nad Popelkou dates back to the 16th century.
Nature
Jezírko pod Táborem is a peat lake located south of Lomnice nad Popelkou in the town’s immediate surroundings. It has been protected as a natural monument since 1996 and preserves a habitat for the carnivorous round-leaved sundew (Drosera rotundifolia) as well as a peat-bog plant community.
Winter
When winter climatic conditions are favourable, up to 30 kilometres of the Lomnická běžecká magistrála cross-country ski trail are prepared.
Viewpoint
The Skokanský můstek K-70 is an unusual observation tower with a chalice-shaped walkway, created by converting a ski-jumping hill.
