Újezd: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Újezd is a place where archaeological traces, historic buildings and the landscape along the Švábský potok stream meet.

Archaeology and landscape

The archaeological site “středov. sídelní jednotky Chvistec, Popelov, lomy” covers the cadastral area of Újezd u Jestřebí. It lies in the valley of the Švábský potok stream and on the uplands above it. There are historic sandstone quarries in the valley. Several caves and rock overhangs containing traces of human modification, as well as historic rock carvings, are located in the side gorges.

Culture and history

Újezd was founded by ancestors of the Lobkovic family, who lived there. The Chapel of Our Lady of Perpetual Help is located in Újezd, which is now a district of the municipality of Jestřebí. It was built in 1730 and is a rural Baroque chapel. It has a circular central floor plan, a façade with a volute gable, and a roof turret with a bell, dome and cross.

On the eastern edge of Újezd, next to the Classicist Church of St Nicholas, lies the excursion destination of Hradištěk. Hradištěk preserves the remains of a medieval fortress from the 14th century. The visible remains include a distinctive mound forming the core of the castle, as well as large sections of the surrounding moat and ramparts.

Routes and location

A cycle route runs through the municipality of Jestřebí from the railway station towards Sluneční Dvůr; it ends at Zákupy Château. As of 2014, no marked hiking trail led to Újezd; the road from Jestřebí was stated to be the best access route.
