Žďár: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Žďár is a unique example of folk architecture from the 18th and 19th centuries. The cottages of Žďár and the village square have formed a village monument reserve since 1995.

Culture

In the upper part of Žďár, the Chapel of the Most Holy Trinity stands on the village square. It was built in 1784 at the expense of the municipality, extensively restored in the early 1990s and subsequently reconsecrated. The rectangular building has a semicircular end.

An old stone lane connects the upper and lower parts of Žďár. The red-marked Máchova cesta E10 hiking trail runs directly past the Chapel of the Most Holy Trinity.

Landscape

The so-called “rock houses” are among Žďár’s notable sights. They can be seen when passing through the deep ravine from the village square to Dolní Žďár. They are not freely accessible because residents use them as storage and operational rooms.

The ruins of Starý Berštejn and the mountains Berkovský vrch, Lysá, Nedvězí [Dubá-Dražejov] and Velká Buková are located in the vicinity of Žďár.

In the wider regional surroundings of Žďár are the Chapel of the Most Holy Trinity and the Church of Saint Adalbert. A report dated 2 November 1865 describes a cast-iron cross on a stone pedestal at the village pond in Dolní Žďár.
