Velky Vrestov: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The educational trail Po stopách vřešťovské krásy is just under three kilometres long and runs along comfortable roads and paths through the immediate surroundings of Velký Vřešťov. It is suitable for small children and pushchairs.

Culture and history

The history of the village includes the Baroque Roman Catholic Church of All Saints in Velký Vřešťov. It was rebuilt in 1723 after an earlier church was destroyed by fire. The church contains a Renaissance pulpit donated by Jan Duchek Borovnický in 1615, as well as the tombstone of Věnek Kordule ze Sloupna and his wife Johanka. There is also a historic pillory in front of the church.

The inner area of the former Velký Vřešťov castle is surrounded by a slightly lower defensive ditch, a zwinger. A rampart-like remnant of the fortifications has been preserved along its eastern edge.

Nature and water

The Vřešťovská bažantnice contains old oaks, hornbeams and alders, as well as springs and wetlands. Below the Vřešťovská bažantnice, the Trotina flows along a historic channel. The Vřešťovská bažantnice is a protected nature reserve with an old floodplain oak forest and rich herbaceous vegetation around the Trotina.

Please observe the fencing around the Vřešťovská bažantnice. The protected area should be viewed from its edges; do not enter the forest or go to the springs and pools.

The main beach at Velkovřešťovský rybník is covered with grass, while the bottom at the water entry point is gravelly. Swimming in the Velký Vřešťov pond is at your own risk. Fishing is permitted in the Velký Vřešťov pond, except at the designated beach.

Getting around

Cycle route 4271 runs from Doubravice via Lanžov, Velký Vřešťov and Jeřičky to Lužany, passing through Velký Vřešťov.
