Tuř combines a distinctive local history with historic buildings, local festivals, and connections to the surrounding landscape. Albrecht von Wallenstein made Tuř one of the estates in his extensive Frýdlant domain.

History and Buildings

The fortress of Tuř was first mentioned in 1542. Tuř Castle was remodelled in the Neoclassical style after 1850. Tuř is also home to a chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary dating from 1836, with a relief of the Klatovská Madonna. In the wider region around Tuř are the churches of Valdštejn and Lázně.

Festivals and Gatherings

The Christmas tree lighting in Tuř includes a St. Nicholas gift-giving event for children. At this event, children are served tea and adults mulled wine. Tuř’s “Farewell to Summer” is a neighbourhood gathering held on the sports field.

Several mountains lie in the area around Tuř: Maxinec (MLázovický chlum), Přivýšina, Tábor, and Střelečská hůra. There are indications of burial mounds in the southern part of Tuřský les.
