Culture and History

The former school, house no. 22, is a single-storey timber-framed building on a masonry base with a shingle-covered gable roof with a half-hipped roof. It was built around 1790 and used as a branch school from 1799. The former school no. 22 now houses the local library.

The Baroque Church of St. Lawrence in Stará Paka dates from 1754 to 1760. It stands on a hill beside a cemetery with sculptures and gravestones from the 18th and 19th centuries and features an illusionistic altar by J. Kramolín from 1780. A late Baroque cross stands in front of the former school. The statue of Saint Anne teaching the young Virgin Mary dates from 1797. The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk from 1803 is located in a niche chapel built at a later date. The Crucified Christ at the cemetery entrance is a valuable artefact from 1856, made in the workshop of A. Sucharda, who came from Nová Paka.
