Údrnice combines a flat valley with a multifaceted local history and visible traces of agricultural and architectural culture. The Zlivštejn archaeological site, also called Hrádek, has been preserved west of Údrnice, above the western edge of the village, as an almost circular central hill surrounded by a ditch and an embankment up to 3 metres high. It is an exceptionally well-preserved manorial estate of a type between a fortress and a castle.

Location and Landscape

Údrnice lies in the southwestern part of the Jičín Region in a flat valley protected to the east and northeast by a gentle elevation called Na Vrchách. North of the village, the historic Plužina field system is being reconstructed. It consists of long, narrow fields originally dating from the Middle Ages, follows the shape of the slope and remains an important element of erosion control to this day.

The mountains of Přivýšina, Střelečská hůra and U Borku [Záhornice u Městce Králové] lie in the vicinity of Údrnice. The wider regional surroundings include Valdštejn Church and Tábor Mountain.

History and Tradition

The centre of Údrnice has been located in the area of the Church of St Martin since the 9th century. The church is protected as a historic monument and bears registration number 23855/6-1419. Its foundations were laid at the beginning of the second half of the 14th century.

Local traditions also include the traditional processing of flax and the production of linen. Local customs maintained over generations included wedding and baptismal traditions.

Leisure and Cycling Route

Údrnice offers a playground, a children's playground and a swimming pool for leisure activities. International Cycle Route No. 14 (Berlin–Prague) passes through the village; it is marked both on the ground and on maps.

The Údrnické Letní Vánoční Trhy are scheduled for 22 August 2026 from 4 p.m. at the cultural centre in Údrnice.
