Culture and history

The Rtyně v Podkrkonoší Town Museum is located in the former Památník 1775, which was converted from the Rychetská stable in 1975 to mark the 200th anniversary of the peasant uprising. The ethnographic exhibition of the town museum presents the furnishings of a farmhouse room, as well as tools and everyday objects used by the population at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries.

In front of the main entrance to the cemetery stands a statue of King David made from locally sourced red sandstone. It dates from 1730 and comes from the workshop of Matyáš Bernard Braun. Near the museum stands the statue of the Rebel, commemorating the judge Antonín Nývlt Rychetský and the peasant unrest of 1775. It was created in 1975 by the academic sculptor František David.

The peasant uprising of 1775 was a struggle by Czech peasants against the authorities, with the aim of freeing themselves from corvée and serfdom obligations. It is connected with the so-called “selského guberna”, led by the judge Antonín Nývlt from Rtyně v Podkrkonoší, which united the rebellious subjects.

The Rtyně belfry is available for guided tours with commentary through the Rtyně v Podkrkonoší Town Museum. The museum’s tactile route for blind and visually impaired visitors includes touchable replicas of selected exhibits, labels in Braille, and two Czech-language audio guides.

Landscape and trails

From the chapel above Rtyně v Podkrkonoší, there is an impressive view of the Rtyně and Svatoňovice basin, framed by the Jestřebí Mountains.

The Rtyňský Circuit, also known as the educational trail to the mining monuments, is 9.6 km long, includes five stations, and is considered moderately difficult to challenging. The circular route begins and ends at the town museum in Rtyně v Podkrkonoší.
