Polom U Potštejna: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Around Polom, marked hiking trails meet forest landscapes and sites of cultural and historical significance. The trails lead through Černý les, along the Modlivý důl Nature Reserve, and to places with chapels, memorials and historic buildings.

Hiking

A yellow-marked hiking trail leads from Sopotnice via Černý les, Polom and Proruby to Potštejn. On another route, the yellow-marked trail runs from Potštejn via Proruby, Polom, Sopotnice and Česká Rybná to Popluží near Žamberk. A green-marked hiking trail leads from Potštejn via Modlivý důl and Polom, and through Hájek, Malá Skrovnice and Velká Skrovnice to Brandýs nad Orlicí.

Landscape and nature

Polom borders the Modlivý důl Nature Reserve. It protects forests with the original tree species composition of the forests of the Middle Orlice region. Above Polom and Hájek, the dense Černý les forest stretches towards Sopotnice.

Culture and history

The listed hunting lodge complex in Hájek is located in the vicinity of Polom. It can be reached via a forest path branching off the road from Proruby and Polom. The geologically significant Hájek locality consists of abandoned wall-stone quarries in Cenomanian sandstones; marine fauna occurs in their sandstone formations.

In front of the Chapel of St. John and Paul stands a memorial to those who fell in the years 1914–1918. Opposite the chapel, on the village square, there is a memorial cross bearing the inscription “A 1793–1899”. In front of the former farmsteads No. 1 and No. 2, a statue of the Virgin Mary erected in 1876 stands on a pedestal. The Chapel of St. John and Paul is considered one of the buildings of value in the cadastral area of Polom u Potštejna.

The nearest railway stations to Polom are in Potštejn or Sopotnice on line 021 from Týniště nad Orlicí to Hanušovice. In Polom, a shop and a restaurant provide food and shopping opportunities during the week.
