Velká Úpa: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Velká Úpa ski area is a smaller ski resort with one ski slope featuring a significant difference in elevation. The valley station of the Portášky cable car in Velká Úpa houses a ski school office, a rental shop, a test centre and the SkiResort Live service.

Winter Sports and Trails

The Cesta horských nosičů trail begins at the valley station of the Portášky cable car in Velká Úpa. Along the route, information boards provide details about the history of mountain porters. Údolím Šramlu also begins in Velká Úpa and follows a yellow-marked hiking trail to Portášky.

The Krakonošova zpovědnice trail comprises seven activity stations, including stations along the Old Road and in the centre of Velká Úpa. It follows an easy route from Pec pod Sněžkou to Velká Úpa. Herní krajina Pecka, a unique collection of interactive wooden sculptures and objects featuring motifs of the fauna of the Krkonoše Mountains, is also located at the mountain station of the Portášky cable car.

The trip from Velká Úpa to Sněžka is a recommended walking excursion that can be managed with children if a cable car is used at least once.

Culture and History

The Church of the Holy Trinity in Velká Úpa is a spacious Neoclassical brick building. Its construction began in 1788, and the first mass was celebrated there in 1789. The Velké Tippeltovy Boudy are among the best-preserved examples of vernacular architecture in the Krkonoše Mountains and were designated a village conservation area in 2005.

A hiking trail to Velká Úpa passes a Catholic chapel dating from 1877. Mountain House No. 282 is protected as a cultural monument.
