History and Culture
The origins of Černý Důl are connected with the beginnings of ore mining in the Krkonoše mountains. The beginnings of iron ore mining in the valley around the Čistá stream are documented as early as 1383.
The Stations of the Cross in Černý Důl are a historic monument dating from 1842, with 14 stone chapels and a landscaped park near the Church of Saint Michael. This church is a Roman Catholic, oriented filial church and a former parish church; it belongs to the Janské Lázně parish and has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 3 May 1958. The permanent exhibitions of the Krkonoše Underground Museum and the exhibition rooms are located in the basement of the Černý Důl municipal office building.
Trails and Views
The Vápenická educational trail begins in the square in Černý Důl, is approximately 0.8 km long, and presents the local history of limestone extraction through historic lime kilns, an old quarry, and information about limestone processing. The Okolo lomu walking trail is an approximately 3.7 km circular route from the square in Černý Důl around the limestone quarry and back along the ski area.
Pěšník is an approximately 3.5 km family-friendly walking route between Černý Důl and Čistá that runs away from road traffic. The Bönischovy boudy viewpoint above Černý Důl offers distant views in every season and is suitable for watching sunsets.
Winter and Cycling
The Ski Areal Černý Důl ski area offers wide, easy-to-navigate slopes with gentle gradients, two chairlifts, and the largest learning zone in the SkiResort, with two conveyor belts, a children’s lift, and professional instruction from the SkiResort Live school.
The area around Černý Důl has an extensive network of marked cycle paths of varying difficulty, supplemented by orientation maps and rest areas. The Kolem Černé hory cycle route begins in Černý Důl, runs along both paved and unpaved sections, and offers views of the landscape.
Free ski buses on four main routes connect five areas within the SkiResort ČERNÁ HORA - PEC, including Janské Lázně, Černý Důl, Pec pod Sněžkou, and Svoboda nad Úpou.
