Choustnikovo Hradiste: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Choustníkovo Hradiště presents its history at several prominent sites: a castle on a high rocky promontory, Baroque sacred architecture, the Sporck monument and a regional cycling route give the town an unusually rich profile.

Culture and History

The Baroque Church of the Elevation of the Holy Cross was built from 1760 to 1770 based on a design by the master builder and architect Leopolda Niederöcker and consecrated on 14 October 1770. There is a crypt beneath the tower where, among others, nuns from the former convent and local priests are buried.

Choustníkovo Hradiště Castle was built at the beginning of the 14th century in a strategically favourable location on a high rocky promontory, where an Old Slavic hillfort had previously stood. It was later called Palackým Choustníkovo Hradiště. The archaeological castle site has a three-part ground plan of the keep castle type.

The historic townscape also includes the Sporck bust monument, which was unveiled on 7 July 1901. In the park in front of the former Hotel Sporck, of which only a deteriorating remnant of the building remains today, a bust of Count Franz Anton Sporck stands on a high pedestal. The Sporck monument now displays a copy; the original is located in the ceremonial hall of the municipal office in Choustníkovo Hradiště.

Remembrance

A memorial ceremony has been held every year in May since 2003 at the grave of the victims of the death march in Choustníkovo Hradiště.

Cycle Routes

The signposted regional cycle route 4098 reaches Choustníkovo Hradiště at kilometre 15 from Ratibořice. From Choustníkovo Hradiště, it continues via cycle route 4097 to Stanovice, where it connects to Route 24 and the Elbe Cycle Route (Labská stezka).
