Vlkava combines early local history with Baroque architecture. The village was first mentioned in 1046, and Vlkava Baroque château was built in 1736.

Culture and history

Visible historical features include a reconstructed wayside shrine with an image of Jesus Christ, unveiled in Vlkava on 28 September 2024, as well as the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, which was blessed on 20 November 2021. The historic brewery is also part of the village’s history: both pale and dark beer were brewed there.

Landscape and routes

The Vlkavský rybník pond lies immediately west of Vlkava. The pond has a water surface of 20 ha and a retention volume of 320,000 m³; it is used for fish farming. A protected English oak (Quercus robur L.) stands at its western end. A height of 23 m and a trunk circumference of 545 cm are recorded for it, although the height figure is described as significantly exaggerated.

The Taxis cycling route runs between Čachovice, Vlkava and Patřín along the route of a former sugar railway. A red-marked hiking trail passes through the outskirts of Vlkava and runs from Milovice via Všejany, Loučeň, Jabkenice and Staré Hrady to Mladějov. Čachovice railway station is 1.5 km from the centre of Vlkava and is located in the cadastral area of the municipality of Čachovice.
