Uhlírské Janovice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In Uhlířské Janovice, sacred architectural history, historic memorial sites, and marked trails come together. One of the prominent buildings is Kostel sv. Jiljí, a medium-sized Gothic church with a polygonal presbytery and a northern sacristy. Part of the masonry of the nave of an older Romanesque church has been preserved in the church; the presbytery contains notable Gothic wall paintings.

Culture and History

Kostel sv. Aloise stands in the middle of the town square. The Church of sv. Aloise is a late Baroque building completed in 1795. Its interior furnishings are Baroque and Rococo.

At the former Jewish cemetery of Uhlířské Janovice, part of the surrounding wall and two gravestones have been preserved. One of these surviving gravestones was converted into a memorial to the destroyed cemetery.

The former synagogue of Uhlířské Janovice was built in the Baroque style in 1798 and today serves as a house of worship for the Czechoslovak Hussite Church. At Husův sbor, the Noci kostelů 2026 programme offered a free guided tour of the former synagogue; historical photographs were also displayed.

Landscape

Several named hills lie in the immediate surroundings of Uhlířské Janovice: the hill (Za Mýtem) near Staňkovice u Uhlířských Janovic, the hill (Chlum) near Staňkovice-Smilovice, and the hill (V Porostlém) near Sudějov. The hill Na Vrších near Vavřinec is also located in the area.

Getting Around and On Site

The long-distance cycling route Pražská trasa passes through Uhlířské Janovice. A green-marked hiking trail also runs through the town, while a yellow-marked hiking trail begins at the local railway station.

Uhlířské Janovice has a municipal cultural and information centre with an exhibition hall and library. The town also has a natural swimming pool with a grassy, tree-shaded shore.
