Stříbrná Skalice: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Posázavské Beechwoods is a Natura 2000 site of European importance. The protected area covers 154.4442 hectares, and the site code is CZ0210028. The largest known site in Central Bohemia of the one-flowered melick grass (Melica uniflora) is located in the area on Mount Baba. Posázavské Beechwoods stretches above the holiday settlement of Pyskočely and is freely accessible via forest paths.

Alongside the local history, this places a clearly defined landscape at the centre of attention: the forest, protected area and botanical feature are among the specifically named facets of Stříbrná Skalice.

Culture and history

The development of Stříbrná Skalice was linked to silver mining in the 15th and 16th centuries. The silver deposits near Stříbrná Skalice were exhausted at the beginning of the 18th century; mining finally came to an end.

In Rovná stands the Church of Saint James, a Romanesque church with unique artistic furnishings from the 12th and 13th centuries. Its interior features unique Romanesque wall paintings. A guided tour must be arranged in advance to visit the interior.

The Church of Saint John of Nepomuk is a Baroque church dating from 1730 and can be visited by prior arrangement. It stands on the site of a former castle. The foundations of a round tower or deep cellar rooms have survived; the remains of the original castle walls were used above all in its construction.

The town hall of Stříbrná Skalice was probably built around 1776 to 1778 and has a low, prismatic tower with an onion-shaped cupola. The remains of Hrad Castle are located on a prominent hill in Stříbrná Skalice; the site known as “Hrad” is an important archaeological site.

The town also has an established role in the game world of “Kingdom Come: Deliverance”, which is connected with Stříbrná Skalice: the story begins there, and a decisive event takes place there.

Hiking and trails

The National Heritage Institute describes a half-day hike from Sázavský Monastery to Stříbrná Skalice via marked and unmarked paths.

At the 22nd edition of the “In the Footsteps of Mikeš the Cat” hiking event, the event started at the Information Centre in Mnichovice and ended in the town square there. Routes of 11.5, 20, 29 and 34 km were offered.
