Stradonice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Stradonice’s history stretches from an 18th-century water mill to tales of a witch and a ghost. The Stradonický mlýn, house number 22, is an example of folk architecture, comprising a two-storey brick mill building from the second half of the 18th century and a single-storey utility building dating from the 18th to 19th century. In 1878, the water mill had three water wheels; two powered the mill and one powered a sawmill.

Culture and History

Local tradition includes the Stradonice witch Makoša, who is said to have lived in Bačálky. According to local tradition, the ghost Kamtodám also appeared unexpectedly in Stradonice after nightfall.

The Stradonice fortress was first mentioned in 1505. It was damaged during the Thirty Years’ War and later disappeared. Another local feature is the Vodník Bačálek on the Zlonický stream, which is regarded as a local curiosity and a symbol of the region.

The Zvonička splněných přání was built near the mill in 2014; a meeting with hunters is held there every year. Stradonice regularly hosts cultural events, excursions and traditional gatherings, including an All Souls’ procession and the lighting of a tree.

Nature and Surroundings

The Krkonos hill is located in the immediate vicinity of Stradonice. The Na Drahách hill is also nearby. Further afield in the region are Srdov Mountain and Oblík Mountain.

Also located further afield in the Stradonice region are the Hazmburk ruins, Zámek Ostrov Castle, the Hradek Oltářík ruins and the Church of Svatý Jiří.

Transport Connections

Stradonice is served by bus route 220126 between Slaný, Klobuky and Vraný. There are five services towards Vraný and four towards Slaný; there is no bus service at weekends.
