Sokoleč: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Sokoleč is the birthplace of František Novák, a military aerobatic pilot who was known as the “King of the Skies”: he was born here on August 26, 1902.

Culture and History

The chapel in Sokoleč was built in 1799. At the end of the 19th century, a chicory drying plant was established in the village. The Sokolovna was built in 1938 and was used for amateur theatrical performances and film screenings.

A memorial plaque dedicated to František Novák was unveiled at the local school in 2002. The Museum of Pilot František Novák in Sokoleč was established in 2022; it contains personal belongings commemorating his life and aviation achievements.

Traditions

Pilgrimages have been maintained in Sokoleč for many years as an age-old tradition. The same applies to village festivals, known in Czech as “posvícení”, and to Staročeské máje.

Nature and Leisure

A park was established in Sokoleč in 1926. A swimming pool and an illuminated ice rink were also set up in 1926.

The V Jezírkách National Nature Monument is open to visitors and protects wetland and aquatic ecosystems as well as habitats of rare plant and amphibian species.

Bus services connect Sokoleč with Poděbrady, Pečky, and Kolín. Sokoleč has several restaurants, including Pivnice Špejchar, hostinec čp. 7, and the summer restaurant “Na Hřišti”.
