Culture and History

The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Pičín dates from the late 13th century, has an early Gothic core and was remodelled in the Baroque style. The Baroque columned gate of the cemetery at the church dates from 1691 and was transferred from a nearby dissolved monastery. The same site also provided the statues of Saint John of Nepomuk and Saint Anthony of Padua, dating from 1708.

The former fortress and later granary in Pičín consist of an imposing two-storey building with remnants of Renaissance sgraffito on the façades, as well as an enclosing wall lined with arcades. The fortress, built in the Middle Ages, probably in the 13th century, was used as a granary from the 18th century onwards.

Mount Velký Chlum is located in the immediate vicinity of Pičín, as is Mount Kuchyňka. Mount Hradec, the ruins of Valdek Castle, Mount Plešivec and the Church of Svatá Anna are located in the vicinity of Pičín.

The wider regional surroundings of Pičín include Karlštejn Castle, the historic site of Lety u Písku and the Roma and Sinti Holocaust Memorial in Bohemia.

Events

Pičínská rybka is a traditional fishing competition held at Dražský rybník. It is held in two categories: for adults, and for children and young people under 18.

For 2026, the Pochod Pičín–Řitka was listed as the eighth edition.
