Nalžovice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Nalžovice combines Baroque architecture with the rocky landscapes of the Vltava Valley. The Baroque château acquired its present appearance between 1750 and 1760. The château complex includes a large park in a shallow valley, enclosed by a stone perimeter wall. On the northern side of the middle château park stands the independent Baroque chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows, which was altered after a fire in the 19th century.

Culture

The local history also includes the Church of Saint Wenceslas and the Slavic hillfort site “Na Hradě”. The church can be reached from the adjacent village square via a distinctive Baroque staircase decorated with statues. The Church of Saint Wenceslas in Chlum acquired its present appearance during alterations in 1790; the church and cemetery are accessible from the south and west via local roads. The hillfort site “Na Hradě” preserves a crosswise rampart that separated the inner fortification from the outer bailey. The structure of a gate and further traces of fortifications on the slopes are also visible.

Another historic landmark is the Boží muka wayside shrine in Nalžovice: the masonry pillar shrine has a small chapel at its top and dates from the late 18th or early 19th century. The rectory is a Renaissance building remodelled in the Baroque period. The rectory grounds include a large landscaped courtyard, a barn and a perimeter wall with separate gates for vehicles and pedestrians. The château is currently used as a social care facility for girls with intellectual disabilities.

Nature

The Drbákov–Albertovy skály National Nature Reserve lies within the cadastral area of Nalžovice, on the right-hand side of the middle Vltava Canyon between the Oboz and Častoboř recreational centres. The reserve protects rocky slopes in the Vltava Valley with natural forests where European yew occurs, as well as rock steppes with rare and endangered species.

On the steep slopes, entry is permitted only on the marked educational trail for reasons of nature conservation and visitor safety. The Drbákov–Albertovy skály educational trail follows a circular route and includes 11 stations with information boards and viewpoints overlooking the Vltava Valley.

Activities

The 20-kilometre cycle route 8132 runs from Vojkov to Křepenice via Chlum and Nalžovice. The municipality of Nalžovice also includes the OBOZ campsite for tents and caravans.
