Culture and History

The Neoclassical Chapel of Saint Rosalia stands in Nové Jirny on the village square and dates from 1872. Another chapel, the Chapel of the Virgin Mary, was built in 1914 in the Nové Jirny forest at a place called “V zadních dubinách”. It has a small bell tower and was built by members of the Jirny Beautification Association.

The Saint Hubertus Monument in Nové Jirny commemorates Saint Hubert, the patron saint of beaters and hunters. It is located along the connecting path across a meadow in the direction of Jirny.

Nature

Biocenter NRBC 5 – Vidrholec is located behind the Nové Jirny district. It is a functioning biocenter covering an area of 1,000 hectares. The Cyrilov Nature Reserve is part of the Vidrholec Biocenter located behind Nové Jirny. Its protected features include purple moor-grass and bilberry oak forests, varied birch populations, the floodplain ecotype of hornbeam, and old oaks and pines.

Events

A Christmas tree lighting ceremony was held in Nové Jirny on November 26, 2022; on November 30, 2024, the Christmas tree on the village square beneath the chapel was lit. On June 8, 2024, a traditional Children's Day was held, as every year, in the meadow in Nové Jirny.
